WH3 Hash Rules and Guidelines
"borrowed" by Check My Bag from Atlanta Hash since they already called out Asspacker by name. And it's been modified slightly for our little ole group.
General Guidelines
· Hashing has no rules, but Haring does. To ensure that we all have fun, and that the Hares aren't dismembered, here are a few guidelines.
· USE COMMON SENSE! VIRGIN HARES must lay with experienced Hares, never with other Virgins. Ideally 2 experienced Hares with one Virgin. Experience of assisting hares at discretion of
mismanagement.
· Ride start. The start should allow sufficient, safe parking without tickets, towing, etc. Be sure the expected crowd can be accommodated at the start area. Don't put us out in the middle of a busy
street.
· Bag car. Don't expect someone will be there to keep an eye on everything in the back of a pick-up truck. Hash cash wants to pack up and ride just like everyone else so there needs to be someone
there to watch the bags. Hares get to ride for free so you can always use one of them strictly for the bag car. If they are in a locked truck or van, hash cash can lock up and take off.
- Ride end. The end will be in an area where beer is legal (not on school property), and where the hash can congregate without interference. Light is necessary and may have to be provided by
lanterns, etc. Don't put us in an illegal area where the Police are going to rush us out of. Get everyone to the finish in about an hour to hour and half. Avoid traffic, crossing busy intersections, and
respect "No Trespassing" signs.
· LOST HASHERS: Hares are responsible for finding any Hashers still out on the trail by the time the ON IN (circle) is over. This is good incentive to lay a well-marked trail!!! The search party starts with
the hares. Hares are to make sure virgins have their phone number! It is not up to mismanagement to get your digits to hand out. Give the info at your chalk talk!
· ON IN - hares must provide transportation back to cars. Ideally the ON ON site should be well lighted. In case of rain an alternate site that is sheltered, or at least covered is a must.
Planning
· Hares are responsible for procuring a Bimbo if one is necessary. The bimbo will bring the hash vehicle with bags to the end and get the food and beer to the finish. ARRANGE THIS AHEAD OF TIME.
The Trail
· Ride the entire trail and time it to estimate the overall length.
· Flour marks should be close enough together that you see the next mark shortly after passing a mark. Treating every mark like a check gets old real fast.
· Hare arrows should be used to indicate any change in direction and at all street corners. Toilet paper can be used when flour and arrows cannot be seen (i.e. in the woods at night). (Flour is not
used in residential areas here in Atlanta due to high anxiety over Anthrax. You can make a decision to use but you will get yourself out of jail by yourself. Checks tend to bring the strewn out group
together, as front runners look for true trail from a check while the rest of the pack reaches the check waiting for an inkling as to where to go next.
· A ride should contain approximately a half dozen checks. Fewer could make for a boring trail, and a lot more can make for a much longer ride.
· The trail should start up within 100 yards of the check. Back tracks and/or YBFs should be less than 1/4 mile long.
· The true trail should come out of check in a forward direction, or to the right or left, (not back in the direction of the original trail unless you are Asspacker.)
· A trail should be easy to follow when you are on trail, flour placement can be clever, but should not be hidden.
· Use interesting checks to keep the pack together, not obscure trails.
· Trails should not go through private property without owners' permission.
· Dangerous places, such as unstable cliffs, quarries on night rides or heavy traffic areas, should be avoided.
· Dogs should not be on trails when temperature is over 80 Degrees all day.
· Beer checks are a good idea, and should include sodas & plenty of water. Long and/or hot trails should always include extra water.
· At a check, a trail cannot 'die'. If a trail has three marks and it is not true trail there will be a backtrack made by three straight lines across the trail.
RIDE LENGTH
Doo Doo short - approximately 4-6 miles
Short trail – approximately 10-12 miles
Long trail – approximately 12-18 miles
· If you want longer rides you must have a turkey-eagle split. No one should have to ride more than 6 miles if they don't want to.
· Stash flour on trail to avoid carrying a heavy bag.
· Doo Doo short trail should also be very non-technical (no tunnels, waist deep creek crossings, etc.), we are trying to attract new hashers to the sport and don’t want to scare them away.
Ride Budget
· Don't expect to be reimbursed if you spend more than the budget without first checking with the Hashcash. And ASK what that budget might be! Flour can be bought for any trail for much less than
10 bucks.
NO RECEIPT, NO REIMBURSEMENT!!!!
· If you want to do food at the end of your hash you need to get your budget approved by hashcash first! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!
· We try to keep the hash at $7 so we need to be as frugal as we can (or else start drinking canned beer).
