RAGBRAI 2011

Posted by Barbara Grove at July 20. 2010

Service & I are seriously considering going to Iowa mid July next summer for RAGBRAI.

It is a week long road bike ride that goes thru every small town on the route & all most all of those towns have a street party. Drinking & biking at least 60 miles a day in the heat of the summer - it doesn't sound like it, but it really is a blast. Plan on being out & about for a good 10+ hours a day. (very different that BRAG)

Please let me know if you are interested in joining us - it isn't cheap - the team I can get us hooked up with costs around $300. They have a bus, set up & take down your tent everyday for you, arrange to have port-a-potties & showers at our camp everyday, and I think they have coolers of beer/sodas/snacks waiting every night. I don't have all the details - my drunken younger brother is giving me the info.

Then - RAGBRAI has no official "free" sag stops, you need lots more cash everyday for beer & food stops.

I think you also need the offical RAGBRAI wrist band - not sure how much that costs (I'm sure at least $100 - probably more), but if you join a team, you will get the wrist band.

And of course, you need to get to Iowa, we will be driving up probably the friday before to my parents in Cedar Rapids, and getting with the bus on Saturday to get to the start for Sunday's ride. Then - most likely spend the Sunday a week later at my parents & drive back on Monday. We will be taking the truck of course, so we woudl have room for 2 passengers. (the team is based in Cedar Rapids)

So - we don't have to make any decisions until early spring - but to get on the team, first money in gets the spots.

I think I can secure as many as 10 spots.

Just let me know if you are interested so we can talk more when it gets closer.

What was the name of that group that does the tent valet thing? I wanted to see what rates were/are. We're gonna have to budget to pull this off. :)

it is Team Wimpy - but they don't have a website as far as I can tell. This year's ride is happening right now, once my brother gets back, I'll get more details.
