Ride #268 - 08/19/2007- Hares - Jackass and a Mystery Hare
PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT CAMPING - PLEASE COMMENT IN THE WH3 FORUM SECTION. This is a great trail to ride and if you want to camp, the campsite is away from the other campers. What does that mean? We can do what we like. Bring the usual hash stuff. Chair, bike, water, and a change of clothes.

The hare has reserved the Pioneer campsite for Friday and Saturday nights.
The cost is $3 per person. The campsite is fairly large. There is a 30 person limit at the site.
The park website is here:http://www.alapark.com/parks/park.cfm?parkid=9.
The groupsite is located in the South campground.
Directions to campout-
- I-20 West towards Birmingham, Alabama.
- When you are getting close to Birmingham, keep an eye out for I-459 heading South, or West, towards I-65 South. This will cut off a good bit of driving. If you miss this road, then you can wait until you reach I-65 and go South towards Mobile.
- When you reach I-65, take exit for I-65 South.
- Once you are on I-65 South, look for exit 246, Cahaba Valley Rd., exit here.
- At the end of the exit there are 2 lanes that turn Right. You need to be in the Center lane.
- When you turn, you need to turn Left at the first light, which is State Park Rd.
- Stay on this road until you reach a 4 way Stop.
- Turn Left at this intersection onto John Findlay III Dr.
- Proceed to the park entrance, there is a guard shack that you need to stop at.
For The Camping Group-
- I am not sure, but you may have to pay the day use fee to enter park. I would ask when you arrive at gate.
- The campsite is registered under, Wheelhopper. Mention this when you get to the Main gate and if needed the campground as well.
- Directions to site- Stay on main road for several miles. OBEY SPEED LIMIT! The rangers will stop you.
- Turn Left onto Campground Rd.
- Check into the campstore for a car pass.
- Go past campstore.
- On your right you will see a Gravel rd. Turn Right here, and follow it to the end. It is a little bumpy, just be careful.
Just for the Hash-
- Follow directions above to the Park Entrance. Be prepared to pay the fee for Day Use. I am not sure as to the amount. I think it is $3 on the weekend per person.
- Drive on the main road, go past the Dam on the Right, and look For Terrace Dr. on the Right, turn right here.
- Stay on Terrace Dr. until you reach the 4th parking lot on the right hand side.
- Look for hashers.
